History Of Tutrakan And The Region

The small but magnificently located town of Tutrakan on the hills above the Danube boasts four museums, each of which tells the story like a thread woven into a richly colored rug.

Tutrakan - Four Museums, One Story

The small, located on the hills above the Danube, Tutrakan tells its story through four museums: the Ethnographic "Danube Fishing and Boat Building" (among the 100 national tourist sites), the Historical Museum with various expositions and a VR experience, the architectural complex "Fishermen's Quarter" and the newest Memorial Complex "Tutrakan Epic - 1916" near the village of Shumentsi (opened in 2024, with an interactive diorama).

Around them you will find the Zhelyo Tachev Art Gallery, the St. Nicholas Church, the ruins of the Roman fortress Transmariska (northern and southern walls and towers), the Sabri Hussein Mausoleum (Softa Baba Tekke), the mosque and urban architectural pearls from the late 19th - early 20th centuries. Nearby are the St. Marina Monastery, the wonderful views from the old Roman road, monuments and old fountains.
