The Wild Danube near Tutrakan reveals islands, sandbars and wetlands with over 240 species of birds. In Kalimok-Brushlen you will see the Dalmatian pelican, and around the Pozharevsky Islands – a living mosaic of wild inhabitants.
The locals bring traditions from the Carpathians to the White Sea and from Vienna to the Black Sea – with living crafts, fishing skills and a colorful coexistence of cultures and religions. The river connects us, and hospitality makes every encounter personal.
On the hills above the Danube, Tutrakan preserves a rich history in four museums — from the Roman Transmariska to the “Fishermen’s Quarter” and the interactive “Tutrakan Epic 1916.” Wander among temples, galleries and fishermen’s houses and feel the spirit of the "City of Bulgarian Battle Glory".
Along the Danube River, the calendar is filled with a variety of events – from July Morning on the banks, through the Fiery Danube and the Apricot Festival, to mamaliga, fish soup and mulled rakia. Every season brings its own flavor, music and mood.
