Music, flavors and traditions along the Danube

The July Morning Festival

12 hours of live music with regional, national and foreign rock bands, waiting for the first July sunrise to color the waters of the river.

There is a possibility of placing tents, campers and caravans, both on the festival meadow itself and at the Association's garden.

Apricot Festival

Fiery Danube Festival

The festival has been held since 2012 and has grown into the largest event of its kind along the Danube River. It opens on Wednesday with an open-air classical music concert at the park’s amphitheatre. The following evening is dedicated to folk rhythms, featuring Bulgarian and international ensembles. On Friday night, the atmosphere heats up with contemporary pop or rock music on the riverside stage.

The highlight of the festival is always the last Saturday of July. The day begins with the competitions “Best Fish Soup” and “Best Fish Dish.” While the teams are cooking, water-based challenges get underway, including kayak slalom, walking across a greased beam, swimming races, and more. At the same time, entertainers and creative workshops keep children happily engaged. Once the dishes are ready, everyone is welcome to join the tasting. And even if you miss it, you won’t go hungry — numerous food stalls offer a wide variety of food and drinks throughout the day.

The stage program opens with performances by local talents, followed by the announcement of the competition results and the start of the grand evening music and light show, which traditionally concludes with a spectacular fireworks display.

Fish Soup Festival

If you are traveling along the main Ruse-Silistra road at the end of August and see colorfully dressed people in the shade of the pine forest of Brashlen, then you have come at the right time. The Fish Soup Festival begins in the morning with all registered participants being loaded with fish. Then the fires and grills are lit. By noon it is already quite warm, but it smells wonderful of lovage and freshly cooked fish. The best part is that after a few portions are set aside for the jury, everything prepared with great enthusiasm is shared with the festival guests.

Artisan craft makers and food producers also take part in the festival. Throughout the day, music from the stage fills the area.

Mamaliga Festival

One of the most delicious traditional festivals in the Danube region of Dobrudzha, the Mămăligă Festival celebrates local culinary heritage and cross-border traditions. The people of Novo Cherna proudly claim to prepare the finest mămăligă, using recipes brought by their ancestors from the village of Cherna in the Tulcea region, following their resettlement in 1940. Today, cornmeal dishes are a true specialty here, prepared in an impressive variety of ways.

Visitors can watch large cauldrons bubbling over open fires as skilled Bulgarian and Romanian cooks stir energetically and invite everyone to taste. The festival also offers a rich folklore program, traditional music, and a warm, joyful atmosphere that brings the community together.

Festival of Mulled Rakia and Cabbage Soup

This unique winter festival proves that cold weather is no obstacle to good food and great company. Every February, the village square of Babovo fills with visitors who come to enjoy mulled rakia, traditional cabbage soup—or both. From the early morning hours, volunteers from the local community center prepare large cauldrons of cabbage soup and cook hearty traditional dishes. As the day goes on, the square becomes lively and crowded, with long lines forming for these much-loved winter flavors. The festival program is as traditional as the food itself, featuring folklore groups from across the region. There is no competitive element—just music, dancing, and a warm community spirit. And whenever the cold sets in, everyone is welcome to join the horo dance and warm up together.
